The National LGBTQI+ Cancer Network is a national nonprofit that works to improve the lives of LGBTQI+ cancer survivors and those at risk by educating our communities about how to minimize our cancer burden; training healthcare providers to be more welcoming; and advocating for an expanded focus on our communities in mainstream tobacco and cancer organizations, the media, and research. We are committed to grounding this work in anti-racist and anti-sexist activities and countering the deleterious social determinants of health which works to manage and grow the provider training opportunities offered to the National LGBTQI+ Cancer Network team. 

We are a fully remote U.S based company.

Position Overview

The Project Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering and monitoring the Network’s training and technical assistance initiatives alongside the Projects Director. This position is primarily supported by a grant working to prevent and control tobacco-related cancers in special populations. The Project Specialist works to ensure that deliverables are achieved in accordance with quarterly and annual goals. In this role, the Specialist will support the work of our LGBTQI+ tobacco and cancer control initiatives across the country, train and support cancer and tobacco control programs to reach LGBTQI+ populations with evidence-based practices. In collaboration with the Network team, the incumbent is responsible for promoting Network initiatives through identification of and outreach to potential and existing partners. Representative duties of this position include:

Project Management

  • Identifying and reviewing scope and timelines.
  • All project objectives and scope are clearly defined, documented, and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Consistently update a project management system.
  • Regular check-ins with stakeholders and teams to identify risks. 
  • Risks are identified, assessed, and tracked throughout the project.
  • Incorporating evaluation tools and utilizing the information collected to meet quality standards.
  • Changes to project scope, objectives, or requirements are documented and approved through a change control process.
  • The project is executed within the approved budget.
  • Resources, including materials, are effectively allocated and utilized.

Human Resources, Team Management and Culture

  • Treats colleagues with respect and generosity, leading with listening.
  • Leverages feedback and turns feedback into action.
  • Participate in the hiring process as an interviewer as requested.

Learning and Development

  • Maintains current knowledge of tobacco, cancer, and LGBTQI+ health research by reading articles and other related publications, attending trainings, conferences, and other available presentations.
  • Ensures that all project materials are up to date and reflect the most accurate information on cancer, tobacco, and LGBTQI+ health.
  • Monitors the field to identify learning gaps and training needs.
  • Works collaboratively with the team to create, monitor, and carry out trainings.
  • Provides up-to-date training in the employees focus area to community members and stakeholders. 
  • Partners with Data and Evaluation Manager to collect and report training data

Communication and Reporting

  • Coordinate frequent meetings and touch points with staff and stakeholders.
  • Communication plans are developed and documented, outlining communication objectives, methods, and frequency.
  • Strategies for reaching various stakeholder and community groups are defined and implemented.
  • Regular project status updates are provided to team members per the communication plan.

Funder Compliance

  • All project expenditures are tracked and documented.
  • Milestones and project progress are regularly communicated to the Project Director as outlined in the project plan.
  • Any changes or delays in achieving milestones are promptly reported, along with mitigation plans.
  • Post-project evaluations and reviews are conducted to assess compliance and lessons learned.
  • Contributes to content creation, review, and completion of all reporting requirements.

Logistics

  • Adds, updates, and deletes meetings on calendars in a timely manner.
  • Communicates effectively in coordination and scheduling of meetings, travel, and events.
  • Perform regular updates of databases collecting information to meet project objectives.

Partner Relations

  • Maintain timely communication with project partners.
  • Participate in requests from partners and join necessary coalitions, groups, advisory boards.
  • Follow through on commitments made with partners and meet deadlines laid out.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering high impact LGBTQI+ trainings in tobacco or cancer
  • Demonstrated facility with web platforms, including Asana, Airtable, Zoom, and Google Suites
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and computer skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly professional and capable of representing the organization to external partners
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a growing team, manage details and meet established deadlines 
  • Experience with project management software
  • Experience working as part of a remote team

Benefits

The salary for this position has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, funding, and market rate. The salary range for this role will be between $55,000 - $65,000. A senior level role may be available for those with additional expertise with a range of $65,000 - $75,000. Where a candidate falls within the band is determined by skillset, experience level, and geographic location. Furthermore, this role will have a total compensation package with competitive benefits.
