SAGA Diagnostics is a personalized cancer diagnostics and disease monitoring company focused on molecular genetic analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). The Histology Supervisor maintains competence in every aspect of Histology. The position is responsible for the daily overall supervision and operation of the Histology Laboratory.
As the Histology Supervisor, you will:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the department including:
- Establishing a brand-new histology lab including hiring and training all staff, establishing competencies and writing all procedures.
- Staff supervision including training, competency assessment
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to interview and hire a team of histotechs
- Produce, monitor and maintain productivity, quality and TAT metrics
- Prepare and revise SOP’s and manuals
- Oversee daily operations and perform histology work –cutting, staining, QA
- Maintain all quality and service standards
- Validation of methodology and instrumentation.
- Laboratory Inspection and preparation
- Monitor the quality of service in Histology and participate in departmental QA processes. Maintain lab compliance with CLIA, CAP, NYS and federal regulations.
- Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively including human resources. Monitor and schedule staff.
- Maintain effective communication. Notifies leadership of unusual problems as appropriate.
- Responsible for oversight and maintenance of all equipment to include documentation and validations as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field;
- 3+ years of experience or equivalent in a Histology laboratory and high throughput laboratory production environment preferred;
- At least one year of supervisory experience is preferred;
- Experience in tissue processing techniques including sectioning, slide preparation, H&E staining, microdissection, and troubleshooting;
- Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations;
- Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner;
- Ability to manage daily test processing needs with high emphasis on quality;
- Ability to analyze and problem solve basic issues that impact test performance;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Strong computer and automation skills;
- Ability to proactively communicate consistently, clearly, and honestly;
- Outstanding professionalism, leadership, and communications skills with internal employees, managers and customers
- Ability to provide direct supervision to laboratory personnel;
- Strong project management abilities.
