Rail Maintenance Mechanic

The 846 Test Squadron (846 TS) is seeking a full-time entry-level Rail Maintenance Mechanic to perform rail refurbishment for the Holloman High Speed Test Track (HHSTT). The 846 TS/TGTOR Element Chief will provide guidance and oversight of the position.

In this position you will serve as a rail operator performing hard physical labor that requires you to stoop, bend, pull and push while also handling upwards of 50lbs in an outdoor environment with the end goal that will provide precision rail alignment for all sled tests. The 846 Test Squadron works with DoD and private industry customers to design, develop and execute high speed rocket sled ground tests specifically designed to simulate selected portions of the flight environment in support of the development of weapon systems and other flight hardware. The 846 TS is unique in that every test utilizes a single test resource: the Holloman High Speed Test Track.  Moreover, the 846 TS is a "one stop shop," where all aspects of a test project are carried out in-house, including mechanical and instrumentation engineering design; sled, instrumentation & concrete target fabrication; test setup & teardown; data collection, analysis & reporting; as well as continual rail maintenance. A Rail Maintainer has the overall responsibility to ensure that fixture hardware is refurbished and aligned according to the Squadrons OI’s along with the Rail Engineers criteria for specific velocity tolerances for various missions.

This position is located at Holloman, AFB, NM.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

The Rail Maintenance Mechanic will:

·        Repair rail hardware while following Squadron OI’s.

·        Maintain all rail maintenance tools and instruments being utilized.

·        Align rail fixtures according to Rail Engineers criteria.

·        Communicate effectively to Rail Team 6 across various disciplines, both verbally, email and in writing.

·        Use visual mathematical skills to read dial indicators while adding/subtracting when aligning rail fixtures.

·        Work in extreme outdoor elements both hot and cold.

·        Use a variety of tools that weigh upwards of 50 lbs.

·        Work with other elements within the squadron.

·        Communicate effectively with all squadron members and customers to achieve proper rail alignment.

·        Work with and motivate team members across diverse functional areas while keeping  good morale.

·        Respond effectively to rapidly changing situations.

Education and Experience Qualification:

·        Must have high school diploma or GED.

•       Requires proficiency in math skills and problem-solving skills.

•       Must have ability to work within specific procedures and processes of the Air Force Test Center and DoD regulations and guidelines.

•       Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with customer interaction and presentation capabilities required.

•       Ability to quickly understand the customers overall technical objectives and mission and provide effective solutions.

•       Exemplify a dedication to achieving the mission of the 846 TS as well as high standards of quality and excellence in performing the duties.

•       Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.

•       Must have an active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain and Secret clearance.

•       Must have a NM Driver’s License.

•       US Citizenship required.
