Full Job Description

Overview: The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) seeks a highly qualified Project Manager to oversee the implementation of our EV Transition Initiative. This role will drive the strategic shift of SEDI-owned and Very Small Businesses (VSBs) from internal combustion engine manufacturing to electric vehicle production, ensuring alignment with the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) and the Small Business Opportunity Program (SBOP).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Execution:
    • Facilitate the transition to EV manufacturing for SEDI-owned businesses and VSBs by managing and coordinating grant services such as advisory support, technical assistance, and capital access.
    • Lead a pipeline of corporate members to identify demand for EV components and collaborate to enhance the MM365 platform's utilization.
    • Implement quarterly MM365 events to engage SEDI-owned businesses and showcase EV opportunities statewide.
  2. Strategic Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and execute project plans, ensuring they meet the strategic objectives and goals set forth by the SSBCI/SBOP Grant.
    • Collaborate with the Business Solutions Group (BSG) to deliver impactful training and advisory services to support MBES in the process across Michigan.
    • Align project services with MEDC's objectives and SSBCI/SBOP requirements.
  3. Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to coaching sessions, classroom events, referrals, SSBCI applications, revenue growth, job creation, and capital investments.
    • Maintain detailed records and prepare comprehensive progress reports for senior management and partners.
  4. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with corporate partners, OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and consulting partners to drive engagement and foster partnerships for MBE growth.
    • Serve as a liaison among key stakeholders, including those in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, St. Clair, Lapeer, Kent counties, and disadvantaged communities under the Justice40 initiative.
  5. Continuous Improvement:
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and activities, drawing insights to refine processes and enhance outcomes.
    • Integrate feedback mechanisms to ensure participant effectiveness and project alignment with evolving market needs over the 3-year period.

Objectives:

  • Effectively manage the transition of 150 SEDI-owned businesses to EV manufacturing within a three-year timeframe.
  • Ensure delivery of high-impact technical assistance, achieving a 3-4% revenue increase for participating businesses.
  • Support the creation of 300 jobs and secure $5-$10 million in financing through meticulous planning and strategic partnerships.
  • Foster a robust support framework encompassing advisory services, training programs, and capital access to meet the initiative's defined objectives.

 

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the MMSDC’s mission to enhance economic opportunities and growth for minority-owned businesses engaging in the evolving EV landscape.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably within automotive or manufacturing sectors.
    • Proven track record of managing transition projects from internal combustion engines to electric vehicle production, including technical and financial aspects.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse and cross-functional teams.
    • Proficiency in project management software and CRM platforms, such as Salesforce or Monday.com.
