Construction Project Engineer

Office Location: 155 W. Congress St Ste. 505, Detroit, MI 48226

Position Classification: Full-Time Regular

As a Construction Project Engineer at Rockford Construction, your role will involve providing support throughout all phases of a construction project and its team. You will contribute to the interpretation of plans and specifications, the compilation of contract documentation, cost tracking, document management, and a range of administrative responsibilities. Additionally, you will help organize and oversee the construction process, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and on schedule. The Project Engineer will operate under the direct supervision of the project superintendent and select Project Managers. This position may also take on some tasks typically performed by the superintendent or senior superintendent.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have experience reviewing, analyzing and resolving field construction issues and design discrepancies, along with strong communication and project management skills, client/customer service focus, and great organizational skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform QA/QC of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel and subcontractor performance) and report out regularly.
  • Respond to any client requirements, concerns or requests throughout the project.
  • Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain bid sites with plans, specifications, and addenda during bid process.
  • Create scopes of work and assemble front-end Project Manual.
  • Distribute, track, and compile all bulletins and bulletin pricing for Project Manager's review.
  • Maintain project information in PM software.
  • Monitor and report construction work progress and quantities to the project team.
  • Provide updated unit prices for estimating department.
  • Attend project management meetings and document OAC/CM meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management.

Competency Requirements:

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in using construction software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access).
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Dedicated to surpassing customer expectations with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to read and understand blueprints.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for seeking opportunities to enhance both individual and company performance.
  • A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are mandatory, as travel to job sites is a critical aspect of this role.

Environmental Factors

This position's work environment may expose the individual to hazards typically found on construction sites. Potential physical hazards include noise, the presence of moving vehicles, challenging atmospheric conditions, confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and elevated areas. The individual may also encounter outdoor environmental conditions (weather) where protective measures may not be feasible. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times while outside the job trailer. Additionally, the work environment for this role may involve occasional visits to the corporate office and job site trailer, with physical demands necessitating the ability to sit for extended periods.
