Full Job Description

Our Culture:

Why work with us?

At Foghorn Therapeutics, we believe in “People First, Mission Always.” We put “People First” because we know our people are the key to everything we will accomplish. We value the diversity of background, ideas, perspectives and experiences that our team members bring to Foghorn Therapeutics – demonstrated by our community speaking more than 22 languages and representing over 24 nationalities. We value our teammates as people, not just as employees – validated by our actions that let our people know that we care about them, their families, and their lives. We say “Mission Always” because we know a relentless commitment to our mission will make a difference in the lives of others. We believe our success will come from evaluating the data to follow the science. We work hard to develop a new class of therapies that could improve the lives of over 2.5 million people with cancer. Our culture is focused on succeeding through the evaluation of data, not people. And in that, relationships can flourish and develop.

Our Science:

The groundbreaking science behind our therapies continues to yield vital insights into diseases that have confounded physicians and researchers. Our core scientific approach is centered on the chromatin regulatory system, which opens and closes the right sections of DNA at the right time. Breakdowns in the chromatin regulatory system lead to a wide range of diseases, including cancer, impacting millions of people. Our proprietary Gene Traffic Control® platform is a powerful tool for understanding and modulating the chromatin regulatory system. We are pursuing multiple treatments for breakdowns in this system. We are the only company with the ability to study and target the chromatin regulatory system at scale, in context, and in an integrated way.

The Role: Foghorn Therapeutics has established itself as a clinical-stage biotech company and leader in the field of chromatin biology and targeted protein degraders. We are now seeking to expand our business development capabilities to drive our future growth and corporate strategy. This Senior Director of Business Development position, reporting to the Chief Business Officer (CBO), presents an exciting opportunity to shape the company's future through strategic partnerships and transactions.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of business development opportunities, working closely with the CBO and leadership team to drive strategic transactions
  • Structure and negotiate complex deals, with a particular focus on sell-side transactions, crafting comprehensive term sheets that address core transaction issues
  • Create and deliver compelling partnership materials and pitch decks that effectively communicate Foghorn's value proposition to potential partners
  • Partner with the CBO to represent Foghorn at conferences and speaking engagements, building and maintaining strategic relationships with biopharma companies
  • Lead cross-functional teams in deal execution, fostering collaboration between Legal, Finance, and business leads to ensure alignment and compliance
  • Develop and implement business development strategies by monitoring market trends, analyzing the competitive landscape, and identifying emerging opportunities
  • Contribute to corporate strategy development, working with leaders across the organization to prioritize projects and generate value-creating partnerships
  • Manage complex internal and external business interactions, utilizing strong analytical, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Lead and inspire high-performing teams while promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to company policies throughout deal negotiations and execution

  • Comprehensive understanding of drug discovery and development processes
  • Deep knowledge of business development processes and pharma deal-making drivers
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and financial acumen
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and influence without authority
