About Sankofa Montessori
Sankofa Montessori embarked on its educational journey as a public charter school, receiving its charter from the Georgia State Charter School Commission in 2021. We officially opened our doors in July 2023, starting our adventure with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. As we chart our course, we added a 3rd grade in our second year and will be adding 4th grade during the upcoming school year, school year 25-26. Our mission is to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and agency needed to lead purposeful lives. Join our team and help us continue to chart our course.

Role Summary and Information
Requirements
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Montessori Academic Coach is a school-based role supporting and enabling teachers to bridge our standards based instruction with the Montessori approach to drive strong student achievement outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Montessori Coaching and Support
- Mentor and coach teachers across Primary, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary classrooms in implementing Montessori pedagogy and practices.
- Provide direct instructional support to ensure fidelity to Montessori principles while aligning with the school’s standards-based instructional framework.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and offer actionable feedback to enhance instructional quality.
- Professional Development
- Design and facilitate professional development sessions focused on Montessori pedagogy.
- Support teachers in curriculum alignment to state standards while maintaining the integrity of Montessori education.
- Instructional Leadership
- Collaborate with teachers to analyze student data, identify instructional gaps, and develop strategies to improve academic outcomes.
- Model best practices in teaching and learning that integrate Montessori methods with standards-based expectations.
- Ensure teachers maintain prepared environments that foster independent learning and align with Montessori philosophy.
- Operational and Administrative Support
- Support with teacher evaluations, professional growth plans, and conflict resolution when needed.
- Assist with day-to-day school operations, including coverage, scheduling, and supporting student needs as necessary.
- Community and Family Engagement
- Act as a resource for families, explaining how Montessori methods and standards-based instruction complement each other.
- Support communication with families to build a shared understanding of the school’s vision and instructional approach.
- Participate in school events to foster a sense of community and support student success.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Step in as needed to address student behavior or other urgent matters in the absence of other school leaders.
- Contribute to the school’s mission of designing purposeful futures by supporting reflection and growth for all staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
For this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:
- Bachelor's degree (required)
- (Required) Montessori certification from a MACTE-accredited program, with demonstrated experience in Primary (ages 3-6) and Lower Elementary (ages 6-9) classrooms; experience in Upper Elementary is highly desirable.
- Instructional coaching experience is highly desirable
- Substantial effective teaching experience in Montessori classrooms
- High level of cultural competence and dedication to serving a diverse student population
- Record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains
- Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of academic excellence
- Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Experience in a public or charter Montessori school environment
- Familiarity with Georgia state standards and instructional expectations
- Proven track record of integrating Montessori methods with state and district standards
- Can complete physical demands of the role (including standing and walking for extended periods of time and lifting heavy objects up to 40Ibs)

- Sankofa Montessori’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution.
