Database Administrator
Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA seeking a Database Administrator with Appian experience. This is a full-time and remote position.
Position Summary: The Database Administrator (DBA) is the data subject-matter expert on the Appian development team, focusing on data migrations, database design, performance tuning, and integration between the legacy e.LORS system and the new OLIVIA Oracle database. The DBA ensures data integrity, reliability, and security while collaborating with developers to optimize application workflows and queries.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain Oracle databases (and potentially additional RDBMS platforms) to support Appian-based solutions.
- Lead data migration and conversion efforts from IBM Db2 or other legacy sources into OLIVIA’s Oracle environment, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Plan and execute database performance optimization, indexing, partitioning, and query tuning to meet project SLAs and scale requirements.
- Coordinate with Appian developers to create effective integration points (APIs, stored procedures, ETL processes) that leverage best DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
- Evaluate user requests for data modeling updates, automation, or changes to database structures, maintaining documentation and ensuring minimal service disruptions.
- Collaborate with security teams to establish and maintain information assurance deliverables and address audit findings or POA&M items.
- Provide ongoing DBA support and troubleshooting for production issues, including on-call availability to ensure system stability.
Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience as a database administrator in an Appian environment, supporting large or enterprise-level implementations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (4 additional years of experience may substitute).
- Experience designing and maintaining Oracle databases, building ETL solutions, and migrating legacy data.
- Knowledge of DevOps processes for APIs, continuous integration/deployment, and code repository usage.
- Demonstrated history of fulfilling security and compliance standards (FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST).
- Oracle Database Administrator Certification (required) or 6+ years of equivalent advanced database experience.
- Appian Developer Certification (preferred).
